Meet the Team

Lorraine Bonete

Optometrist

Lorraine qualified as an optometrist in 1987. She spent several years working at an independent practice in Bradford, and at the eye clinic at Bradford Royal Infirmary. She then packed her bags and went travelling through Asia, Australia and New Zealand. She came to Sheffield in 1993 and she spent many years working in Chapeltown, north of Sheffield.

In 2005 Lorraine had the opportunity to open her own practice in Dronfield Woodhouse. As the business grew, she reduced the time she spent working in Chapeltown and at the Chesterfield Royal Infirmary, and now works exclusively in her own practice.

When not at work she enjoys walking, cycling and yoga.

Luan Joel

Optical Assistant

Luan started working for Lorraine in 2014. She took her Optical Practice Support (Level 2) exams and qualified as an Optical Assistant in 2016. She then completed her Level 3 qualification in 2021. Luan is now studying for the Senior Optical Assistant course.

Very friendly, Luan is always happy to help patients with any enquiry and ensuring that their optical needs are met.

Outside work Luan is kept busy home educating her two sons. She also loves going to the gym and swimming, she enjoys spending time with her family and walking her dog.

Amy Nolan

Optical Assistant

Amy joined the team in 2021, and increased her hours with us in 2023. Since her initial on-the-job training, she has completed the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) Optical Assistant course, and is currently studying for the Senior Optical Assistant accreditation. This training covers all aspects of her role in practice, from dispensing spectacles to clinical support and management, optics, the eye and ocular supplements.

Amy has two children who keep her busy, and family who visit regularly from Norfolk and Newcastle. She enjoys walks in the countryside, baking, shopping and crafting, and she likes to relax with a bit of TV after a long day.

John Walton

Practice Manager

The other member of staff you may see in the practice is Lorraine’s husband, John. He is usually behind the scenes doing the bookwork and making sure that we are compliant with NHS regulations and health and safety requirements.

When not at work John plays badminton, and enjoys walking, photography, cooking and gardening. He also plays guitar and listens to an eclectic range of music!
